The Eight Ray Music Team took on and completed the Welsh Three Peaks in aid of Prostate Cancer during May. Learn more about the company’s charitable efforts in this article.
I’m so grateful that I was given the opportunity to lead Eight Ray Music’s charity fundraising for 2018. With my dad only receiving the all clear last year, Prostate Cancer UK is a charity very close to my heart and as a family we are trying to raise awareness of a disease that is predicted to be the most common cancer in the UK by 2030. I had free reign to decide how we would fundraise and I intentionally chose something epic that would be both mentally and physically challenging. Battling cancer is not easy and so I wanted to do something that would really require strong will and determination. It meant so much to have the support of my team, for us to get through it together and to raise such a fantastic amount of money for the charity in the process. It’s an experience that will stay with me for a long time, although I’m hoping the leg pain will ease off soon! – Suzanne Hurley, Senior Account Manager Eight Ray Music
At Eight Ray Music, we’re committed to building a strong company culture. You might have seen our latest video, which showcases the Eight Ray Music team sharing their thoughts on the culture here.
This culture is heavily based on Eight Ray Music’s core values, which are readily apparent to anyone who has visited our Henley office. After all, as the video shows, each value has its own dedicated mural painted on the office walls.
It’s a daily reminder of what the company is all about and a big part of our culture is about giving back. It’s also about operating as one big family.
This ideal has catalysed Eight Ray Music’s charitable push and each year, two members of the team are given the opportunity to pick their charity of choice. The whole team then gets behind them in an effort to raise as much money as possible for the charity.
It’s up to the individual member of the team to pick the challenges they want to embark on and drive the fundraising effort but although the final choice is theirs, they certainly don’t do it alone – with the whole team coming together to help in any way they can.
This time around, it was the turn of Suzanne – Eight Ray Music’s Senior Account Manager, to pick a charity and a challenge.
Suzanne’s choice of charity was deeply personal. Last year, her father was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Thankfully, he was eventually given the all-clear but it deeply affected Suzanne, her family and led her to choose Prostate Cancer UK as this year’s charity of choice.
Finally, Suzanne picked the challenge – to complete the Welsh Three Peaks in under 19 hours.
After training hard and raising money in the months leading up to the challenge, the Eight Ray Music team completed the Welsh Three Peaks last weekend. In doing so, they raised over £5,000 for Prostate Cancer UK.
Braving a 3 am start, blistered and sore feet, over forty kilometres of walking and the equivalent of 730 flights of stairs the team completed the challenge in a stellar time of 15.5 hours.
A tired but proud team returned to work on Monday, ready for their next challenge.
